Episode 6 – Chloe Reeson

Writer and funny woman Chloe Reeson thought she was just tweeting jokes about a routine mammogram; she didn’t know she was live-tweeting the discovery of her breast cancer. The story of her cancer diagnosis is equal parts funny and sad, like this episode.

At twenty-two years old, Chloe has already had a mastectomy and is now halfway through chemotherapy. She sits with me in my backyard the day before her ninth chemo session to talk about wisdom, having a good head shape for hats, and falling in love with her surgeon. She tells me that morphine is not as good as people think it is, lady doctors are the best, and cancer is a life sentence even if you survive it.

Chloe’s short story ‘Jonas’ Parents Still Have Sex’ won runner-up in Yen Magazine’s 2014 Short Story Comp – you can read it here. You can find Chloe on Instagram and on Twitter.
